Petitioning Governor Mark Dayton – (NEW) Prohibit Wildlife Killing Contests in Minnesota

This is a new petition based on a previous one of the same title and content. The previous petition was taken down, apparently, because the petitioner had been threatened by local hunters. I will not take this petition down no matter what.

No threats will change my conviction or alter my actions. The smiles on the faces of the hunters in the picture I posted with this petition simply won’t allow me to change course. Killing should not be such a joyous activity.

White Wolf And Black Wolf/Steff

I recently discovered that in Minnesota there are contests between hunters to see who can kill the most coyotes. It is not an act of culling but rather pure bloodsport, and it is the type of behavior that shouldn’t exist in a civilized nation like the USA. Especially in the 21st century when we are witnessing the loss of habitat and ability to procreate for so much of our wildlife.

Personally I was disgusted with what I saw and read during my research of the topic, and am ashamed to be part of a nation that allows this behavior. There is no doubt a better solution and a more civilized alternative.

It needs to stop. Now. Please sign my petition and urge Gov Mark Dayton of Minnesota to prohibit these gruesome acts. Our children, 21st century children, should not have to grow up in a world with such brutal and archaic examples of humanity.

I don’t want my son and his generation to have to fight the fights that we should be fighting. I want him to be the beneficiary of a more humane and civilized world than the one in which I was raised, and this petition is a small start.

Please help this petition become law. Let’s make this petition a popular choice for Gov Mark Dayton and start moving Minnesota, and the nation, truly into the 21st century.
